This is the most straightforward route, with little room for error. As you will simply use variations of one hue by adjusting the shades. This means getting progressively lighter or darker with that base colour.

This matching process is fairly easy, just work with colours beside one another on the colour wheel. Pick one to be the main colour and the other will act as an accent.

Now here you need to be a bit more careful with your colour choices. You will use colours opposite each other on the colour wheel. These colours will be contrasting, warm and cold, but when done right will look very complementary and unified.

Definitely more difficult that the other methods above, but this allows you to add more complexity to your decor. Constructed by three colours that are equidistant from one another on the colour wheel. Contrasts can be quite strong when using this matching process, so be care with the base colour you choose.

This is a more complex form of the complementary match. You could even say a combination of analogous and complementary. Done by choosing two colours directly beside each other, and matching them with the opposite on the wheel.

As know as “rectangular colours”, you can find out what works best but forming a rectangle on the wheel. Made up of two sets of complementary colours. However be advised, this is a very complex scheme, yet impressive when pulled off correctly.
